This might be the end of an era for the Golden State Warriors.
It’s been more than a year since Klay Thompson and the organization have been trying to work something out for a contract extension, and it seems like that won’t be happening anymore.
Thompson decided to bet on himself last season and it didn’t pay off, as he took a step back defensively and also struggled with his shot.
Now, with him testing free agency, the Orlando Magic are the odds-on favorites to acquire his services (+150 odds), according to DraftKings and NBC Sports Bet.

The Dallas Mavericks, Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, and Denver Nuggets are also in the mix to get him, per the graphic.
Thompson has made it loud and clear that it wasn’t all about money for him.
He talked about not getting the most money he could get and even about taking a lesser role in the offense, similar to what Ray Allen did when he joined the Miami Heat later in his career.
Still, it seems like he’s felt disrespected and undervalued by the Warriors organization.
Notably, with Bob Myers no longer being in charge of basketball operations, new GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. has virtually no ties or obligations to him.
It’s still sad that they’ve seemingly decided to move on from one of the greatest players in franchise history, but they clearly feel like they could use that money better and surround Stephen Curry with players who could help him win another title now.
